James Loften Mitchell (April 15, – May 14, ) was an American playwright and theatre historian who was part of the black American theatre movement of the s.Lofton, was a prominent black dentist and financier of black business in the area and her mother, Lavinia Day Lofton, was active in the Catholic.
Biography. Born in Columbia, North Carolina, Loften Mitchell grew up in New York, where as a young man he began working in theater with the Rose McClendon Players. In he completed an A.B. at Talladega College in Alabama and studied playwriting with John Glassner at Columbia University.
